our ingredients

It takes a little community to create better gelato. Wherever possible, we source our quality ingredients from people who believe in what they do and we are always looking at ways to improve our supply chain and it’s carbon footprint.

Little Sky is, and always will be, free from artificial colours and flavourings and will never be made from an off-the-shelf factory mix.

One of family owned dairy farms in South Gippsland that provide milk to Gippsland Jersey

meet THE dairy cows* (*not an ingredient!)

The milk, cream and butter we use is from Gippsland Jersey, a dairy who source from smaller, family owned farms who get a fair price for what they produce.   Our milk from Gippsland uses bulk bladders (not plastic bottles) to help with waste reduction.  Gippsland Jersey are also committed to address the stigma of mental health and suicide prevention in rural areas.  Natural yogurts and quark used in our limited edition flavours are from Schulz Organic Dairy in Timboon.  Schulz’s employ organic farming principles to enhance the vitality of the soil, grass and animals, which means Schulz’s farm-land is chemical, hormone and pesticide free.

Fresh seasonal fruit

We use Australian fresh, seasonal fruit for our gelato. And whenever possible we try to source our fruit from Victorian orchards, farms and gardens.

SPARE LEMONS?

Little Sky loves lemons, especially home grown lemons. If you bring us a bucket of lemons will give you a free scoop of lemon gelato. Quid pro quo.

Fair trade chocolate.jpg

Fair Trade

We believe in fair trade for the workers and their communities, so wherever we can source fair trade products we will. We’ve chosen to use small batch, hand crafted Ratio Cocoa chocolate, Heilala Vanilla and Omar & The Marvellous Coffee Bird coffee. And for chocolate lovers, you can see for yourself Ratio chocolate being transformed from bean into the bar at their premises in Brunswick.

Organic free range eggs.jpg

free range eggs

The eggs used in our cookies and waffle-cones are from Goulburn Valley free-range chickens who happily live at Burd’s Eggs farm.

VANILLA

Our vanilla supplier, Heilala, is not only the world’s most awarded vanilla, it’s also the first vanilla producer to measure its impact as a certified B Corp - just like us! Cultivated in the Kingdom of Tonga using organic farming practices, Heilala Vanilla has full traceability from the plantations direct to the people who use it.
